Merry Christmas 2017 (Once Upon a December)

Posted on December 13th, 2017

Happening at Ice Park this December a magical wonderland on ice!

Currently almost 90 young skaters are rehearsing daily to prepare for a Christmas Show in which they will showcase their skills and performance.

For 90 minutes skaters will dance and skate with speed to enjoyable Christmas music. Routines filled with fun and humor and routines with drama and elegance.

Our skaters range from age 6 up to mid teens and are all part of Ice Park training teams. Some skaters are just learning to skate and some have been training for a number of years now. Some skaters represent Cambodia at International events. The purpose of the show is not only to build team spirit between the skaters but also to increase their range of performance skills that are necessary for competition. It’s a lot of fun rehearsing and performing but the skaters also learn very much about timing, rhythm, choreographic styles and team work.

It also shows skating in a positive and enjoyable way to the public. The more young people and families that see what we are doing in Ice Park the more we hope will be attracted to trying this new sport in Cambodia.

This year it’s their first experience of big group numbers with many kids on the ice. It challenges them in new ways. Head Coach Clair Ben Zina has produced, choreographed and directed many shows over her coaching career and has found preparing them extremely exciting because of their enthusiasm of performing this kind of show for the first time. There are no singular stars, every child performing out on the ice is an Ice Park Star!
